rainbow crayons

What's this you ask? Remember the recycled crayon craft I mentioned back in February? Well, we finally tried it here at home. It's a great way to make use of all those little crayon nubs at the bottom of the Rubbermaid container that my kids use for their crayons.
After a little time in the oven.. you have brand new super cool rainbow crayons! Instructions below.

1# Remove any paper left on old crayon nubs

2# Using an oven safe mini muffin tin add crayon bits until about 3/4 full.

3# Preheat oven to 275 degrees.

4# Place tin in center of oven for approximately 10 minutes, watching constantly. You do not want melted crayon mixture to bubble.

5# Once completely melted, remove VERY carefully from oven and let sit for several minutes until set.

I put the now warmish tin into the freezer and the crayons just fell out of the tin a few hours later. Then you have awesome rainbow coloured crayons just like these. Happy crayon making!

sweet sweet avoidance

The laundry is piling up. That light bulb in the kitchen has been burnt out for a month. The lawn is full of weeds and the cupboards and closets are all looking pretty shabby, not to mention the basement we haven't even dared to look at since the 6 family play date we had here a few weeks back.

I am off my game. My usual vacuuming, laundry, dishes and tidying routine is gone. I've got two children at home and its summer. So we are making the most of it, but my house is really looking forward to September. Here's some of the fun.

Is this becoming a knitting blog? Could be. I'm really liking some of the stuff I'm turning out now. Like this Apple Hat I made for E.

aprons

What have I been thinking?

A friend was recently telling me about her children's aprons and it occurred to me that my children do not have aprons for all their messy adventures. This must be rectified immediately.

I found this super cute kids apron on a wonderful new - to - me blog called 'I have to say' and..... I have to say I love it. All you need is a dish towel and bias! So next time I see that oh so cool dish cloth when I'm shopping, I know exactly what to do with it:)

Well wouldn't you know it? After coming up with some great birthday party ideas for E. She has decided she wants it held at the local indoor play-yard..

They provide there own modest (and tacky) decorations and require you use there egg and nut free birthday cakes.

And adding to my irritation.. she had her 3rd birthday party at this facility and we were planning on having J's 3rd there later this year.

I'm tempted to go party-free this year and just get one of these. Lol.. well not really.. but I hope I can find a place to throw a party that will agree with us both.

I have been following blogs for close to 2 years now and my love for them grows and grows. Just today I found two more wonderful blogs to mention. The wonderful nyctaxiphoto blog. I love looking at nyc though this guys (and his taxis) eyes. Not suprizing, this blog has been a Blog of Note with blogger.

And second, The Stories of A to Z. I've been racking my brain for a birthday party theme for E this year. We've done princesses, play centers and I'm leaning towards a garden or flower themed party this year. On Stories ofA2Z I found the most wonderful flower pot brownie cakes (pictured above) which would be perfect to have after planting your own flower, or making your own crafty flower bouquet. It would also match the flower invites I've blogged about before... I think I have a plan:)
