I think I might be the last to know, but I'll post this anyway since I love the idea for so many reasons.
Etsy Lab Archive: Fusing Plastic Bags Article gives you a complete tutorial in how to repurpose those nasty plastic bags from the drug store etc. Once you've fused together 7 layers or so you can actually sew with them and make all sorts of wonderful waterproof things. I'm already planning a bag like this for myself.
